That’s all from me today. You can read Tom Garry’s report here.

Casparij spoke to the BBC after the match.

I’ve waited a long time to score in a Manchester derby. It’s special, especially in front of such a massive crowd. It was so nice to score in front of our support, it is such a great feeling. I think I’m going to sleep well tonight.

Casparij was brilliant all game. She dealt with the Manchester United forwards, popped up with an assist for Miedema and finished off Manchester City’s third goal.

Updated

Full time: Manchester United 0-3 Manchester City

Manchester City were well deserved winners. In all honesty, it should have been more than 3-0 as the visitors overwhelmed a tired Manchester United team. Andrée Jeglertz’s side need five more points to win the league.

Updated

90+4 min: Manchester clip a long ball over the top for Shaw to race onto. Shaw bears down on goal before George barges her off the ball. It looked like a foul but the referee waves the appeals away.

90+1 min: Shaw almost adds her name to the scoresheet. The striker runs through the middle of the field with the ball, her teammates bursting forward with her. She plays a heavy pass to Fowler, forcing Fowler to adjust. The Australia international plays it back to Shaw but the Manchester City striker drags her shot wide.

90 min: There will be five minutes of additional time.

86 min: Mary Fowler comes on for Hemp.

85 min: Manchester United are going through the motions. They look shattered after their 3-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in midweek.

Manchester City are going to need a maximum of five points from their remaining three league matches - all of which are against teams in the bottom four - to clinch their first league trophy in 10 years. This is not so much a victory lap, as a cruise towards the sunset, and they know it.

76 min: Gabrielle George and Jessica Anderson come on for Naalsund and Turner.

73 min: Le Tissier floats a cross in the box. Malard attacks the ball but she struggles to generate any power in her header. It’s a simple save for Yamashita.

Updated

70 min: 16-year-old Layla Drury comes on for Manchester United in place of Riviere. Meanwhile, Kerolin comes on for the goalscorer Miedema.

67 min: Manchester United are enjoying some more possession this half. Unlike Manchester City, the home team struggle to play the ball around with fluency. Jess Park stretches her hands out in frustration.

62 min: Manchester United have a chance at the other end. Malard cuts in from the right and lets fly with her left foot. There isn’t enough curl on the effort and it goes wide.

61 min: That would have been an amazing goal. Fujino weaves in and out of defenders with ease and plays the ball to Hemp in the box. The England winger holds the ball up and back-heels it to Yui Hasegawa. The midfielder latches on to it and fires the ball wide. Manchester City are toying with the home team.

57 min: Manchester United are desperate to get back into this one. Awujo takes a shot but it’s wild and sails over the bar.

Updated

55 min: Millie Turner is down in a heap. This a huge problem for Mark Skinner’s depleted side.

52 min: Manchester United could still get a goal in this game. Yamashita has dropped a couple of loose balls already in this half.

GOAL! Manchester United 0-3 Manchester City (Casparij, 49)

What a goal! Manchester City play the ball out from the back and transition through the thirds so quickly. Hemp bursts away on the left and clips the ball towards Casparij at the back post. Casparij has the simplest of finishes and taps it into the back of the net.

Updated

45 min: Manchester have already started this half brighter than the first. Jess Park wins the ball and plays it out wide to Lea Schüller. She tries to find Melvine Malard in the box but the cross is overhit.

Knaak’s header was disallowed because Fujino was standing in front of Tullis-Joyce when the corner was delivered. It’s a very soft foul as Fujino moved away from the Manchester United keeper way before the goal went in.

Half time: Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City have dominated the first half from start to finish. I can’t believe it’s only 2-0, especially after the visitor’s controversial disallowed goal. I hope Ayaka Yamashita is still awake in the Manchester City goal.

45 min: There will be one minute of additional time.

43 min: That should have been a third! Hemp crosses the ball across the six yard box but Shaw can’t quite connect with it at full stretch.

42 min: Le Tissier is doing well to deal with Shaw. Fujino plays Shaw in but the Manchester United captain makes a crucial tackle.

37 min: Jess Park is dispossessed in the middle and Miedema wins the ball back. Miedema plays the ball through to Shaw but Maya Le Tissier does well to jockey the Manchester City striker and force her away from goal.

33 min: Manchester City are putting Manchester United under pressure whenever they receive the ball. It’s no surprise the home side are making mistakes in possession.

28 min: Watching the replay back, I still have no idea why the goal was disallowed.

25 min: Manchester City put the ball into the back of the net but it’s been ruled out. Manchester City win another corner and Rebecca Knaak heads the ball past Tullis-Joyce. The Manchester City players celebrate but the referee has blown her whistle. Apparently, there was a push in the box. I didn’t see anything wrong in real time.

Updated

23 min: Casparij plays another great ball into the box. Shaw takes it down expertly and forces Tullis-Joyce into a save.

GOAL! Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City (Miedema, 19)

It’s Miedema again! Manchester City are running through the Manchester United’s midfield at will. They commit players forward and Casparij clips the ball into the box. Miedema finds herself free and guides another header into the back of the net.

Updated

GOAL! Manchester United 0-1 Manchester City (Miedema, 17)

The pressure pays off! Alex Greenwoods swings the ball into the box from a corner and Miedema rises highest to glance a header into the far corner.

Updated

15 min: Manchester City are keeping the pressure on. Lauren Hemp smashes the crossbar with a strike from the edge of the box.

Updated

14 min: Manchester City are dominating the early proceedings at Old Trafford. They play some lovely stuff on the right with lovely flicks and tricks.

10 min: Manchester United finally have a chance. Simi Awujo receives the ball on the half turn and flashes her shot past the post.

7 min: Shaw breaks away on the right and crosses the ball into the box. Jayde Riviere clears the ball away expertly.

The away supporters are making all the noise in the early stages here. A blue sky has emerged above our heads all of a sudden and the league leaders are hoping for another sky blue day of celebration on their march towards their first title since 2016. ‘City, City, the best team in the land and all the world’ is their chant.

Updated

3 min: It’s all Manchester City at the moment. Manchester United give the ball away carelessly and Miedema capitalises on the mistake. She slips ball in for Aoba Fujino who drives into the box but the Asian Cup winner drags her shot wide.

Updated

1 min: Manchester City have started on the front foot. Kerstin Casparij crosses the ball in from the right and the Manchester United defenders fail to clear their lines. Vivianne Miedema connects with the loose ball and stings the hands of Phallon Tullis-Joyce with a fierce effort.

Kick off

Manchester United get us under way, kicking from left to right.

Manchester United will need to stop in form Khadija Shaw. The Jamaica international is the league’s top scorer with 18 goals in 18 games, after scoring the WSL’s quickest hat-trick ever in Manchester City’s 5-2 win over Spurs.

Updated

Manchester United manager Mark Skinner believes his side can still win the title.

The aim is if we can beat City, you cut the gap [at the top] as well. Nobody is out of it.

Manchester derbies are always huge games and today is no different.

Manchester City are runaway leaders in the WSL with an eight point gap between themselves and their neighbours. A win today would almost certainly wrap things up as Andrée Jeglertz’s side need eight points to win the title.

Manchester United are looking for revenge after their 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture. Mark Skinner’s side are technically still in the title race but a win today is probably more important for their Champions League qualification, with only three points separating second place and fourth place.

Preamble

Xaymaca will be along shortly. In the meantime, here’s what the Manchester City head coach, Andree Jeglertz, had to say before his league-leading side’s short trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the derby.

These games live their own lives. Because a derby in this city is always going to get 100% energised players from both teams at the beginning. It almost doesn’t matter what tempo you start as your opponent will be ready. These games aren’t determined by 15, 20 minutes. Definitely the longer the game goes, it can be a challenge but it’s how the game turns out and what happens. Definitely in the beginning both teams will be 100% focused and energised, they really want to get three points in this game.”

Manchester City won November’s derby 3-0, with goals from Rebecca Knaak, Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp. United are looking to bounce back from a 3-2 first-leg defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek. Their head coach, Marc Skinner had this to say:

City are top of the league for a reason but we will take that challenge on. Once you accept that challenge, you can rise to a new level.

And here’s Tom Garry’s preview of a WSL weekend full of derby clashes.
